Brief
Description of Trisakti University
Trisakti
University is One of The Biggest Private Universities in
Indonesia. Established by the Indonesian Government on
November 29,1965 following a special decree from Minister of
Education Dr. Syarif Thayeb, Trisakti University has long made
a priority of protecting the environment, improving social
conditions in Indonesia and upholding educational standards.
These aims stem from the University’s commitment to the
future of the nation. A commitment to produce qualified
professionals with a strong appreciation of moral and ethical
values.
The
KADEHAM concept (blending nationalism, with a respect for
democracy and human rights) has, since the University’s
establishment, acted as a core guiding influence in Trisakti’s
the development. However, with the murder of four Trisakti
Students by the security forces on May 12, 1998, the
University became a rallying point for all Indonesians willing
to fight for justice. For with the passing of Hendriawan Sie,
Hafidhin Royan, Elang Mulia Lesmana and Hery Hartanto emerged
the reform movement: a movement that was to shake the Soeharto
empire to its foundations.
The
May Tragedy thrust Trisakti into the vanguard of the reform
process and instilled within it, an unyielding commitment to
the ideals for which the students died. The University is
therefore vigorously developing its facilities so as to serve
as a national center for human rights, development, diversity,
democracy and national unity.
Complimenting
its role as a centre for national development, Trisakti
University places particular emphasis on educational
cooperation
with other institutes in order to provide students with an
ever expanding set of academic opportunities. Several joint
undergraduate and postgraduate programs have been run
successfully with other Universities including Indiana
University, Colorado State University and Cleveland State
University in The United States, Erasmus University
Netherland, University of Westminster in The United Kingdom,
University of Technology Sydney, University of Western
Australia and Edith Cowan University in Australia and also
University of Malaya - Malaysia.
The
University recognizes that the future of the nation rests on
the ability of its citizens to operate both in the local and
global community. Its standards, expectations, and
capabilities should be geared towards Indonesian life in a
world environment and as such, the University aims to equip
its students with the skills necessary to do this. English, as
the universal medium of communication between nations, is a
second language on campus and is used as a vehicle for
continued and future academic initiatives.
In
anticipating and adapting to the future, Trisakti University
has continued to expand while maintaining the high standards
set by its creators. By the end of 1999, the University has
seen 40.000 students attain degree.
Trisakti
University now has nine faculties, with 20 undergraduate
programs and graduate school consist of master degree and
doctoral degree. The University’s student population numbers
31,626 with a staff roll of 2406, consisting of 991 full-time
staff, 1415 part-time staff. |
